St Michael and All Angels is in the parish of Caldecote with Childerley, in the Anglican Diocese of Ely. We are a small church with lots of character – both in terms of its building and its people! Visitors frequently comment on the relaxed and friendly atmosphere (and our sense of humour!)
A small church with a big vision
Jesus teaches us to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbour as ourselves (Mark chapter 12 verse 30). At St Michael’s this is our guiding verse from the Bible.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John chapter 4 verse 11).
And we believe that we are freed to do this not because Jesus was a great teacher, but because he died on the cross.
The cross
Several terms are used to describe what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Different New Testament authors use different words or images to convey the idea, but what is important is simply that we are saved through the death of Jesus. “By his wounds we are healed.” He died to set us free, to remove our sins, to suffer our punishment, to purchase our salvation.
Our church services
Regular services
With a regular attendance of around 15-20 in the church services and 30-40 in our Village Hall services, we are blessed with all the benefits of a small church. Those who wish to give put their talents to good use get lots of opportunities, whether it is to play the organ, arrange the flowers, lead the intercessions (prayers) or give a Bible reading.
We vary the type of services we have – our Holy Communion services alternate (1st and 3rd Sundays of the month) between the contemporary language and traditional language versions, and when there’s a fifth Sunday in the month, we also enjoy the treasures of the Book of Common Prayer at our Traditional Morning Prayer services.
Every Second Sunday we hold a service for all the community in Caldecote Village Hall, where children’s activities are an integral part of our worship together. Every Fourth Sunday of the month we have a family-friendly service in the church.

Joint church events
There are occasional larger services which give the chance for us to join with Christians from other churches from around the area, including an annual service at Comberton Village College. Check the box on the left of this page for times and places of services over the coming weeks and months.
Seasonal services
Special services like the Christmas Carols by Candlelight at St Michael’s or Meditations for Epiphany and Good Friday at Childerley Chapel draw people from across the parish and show these beautiful buildings off to their best.
The church building of St Michael’s dates back to the 11th century, and we love it! To find out more about the building visit the website of the Friends of Caldecote Church.
We are immensely grateful to Chloe Jenkins for opening up Childerley Chapel and Gardens to us on these special occasions.
