The weather forecast is looking good for this coming Bank Holiday Monday’s Open Garden at the Old Rectory, and the opening hours are extended (10am to 5pm) to make the most of it! Entry is free.

Visitors to the Old Rectory garden can expect a generous tea with homemade cake, plus a sale of wildlife-friendly plants, and tours of the 2.3-acre garden by local garden designer and plantsman, Daniel Lee.

The garden is next to the church on Main Street, Caldecote (CB23 7NU for those travelling by sat nav). Parking will be available in the grounds of Meunier House opposite (follow the signs), as well as in the Old Rectory driveway and church layby.

All funds raised will help to support Caldecote Church, to provide a sustainable venue for worship, weddings and christenings for the whole community.

More about the Old Rectory Garden

The beautifully designed garden, developed by the owners, Catherine Hubbard and John Barker, has had the benefit of Daniel Lee’s stewardship in recent years. Respect for the natural features and wildlife allow for a relaxed garden full of hidden delights.

The centrepiece of the garden is the wildflower meadow, which is a magnet for bees. Within the meadow you can sit and relax under a majestic multi-stemmed ash tree.

But it is woodland that predominates with a rich variety of trees, mature topiary and spring bulbs. From the terrace, you can look out over the croquet lawn, espalier fruit trees, and scented borders.
