We are excited to announce that the highly reviewed Cambridge University chamber choir Vox Cantab is coming to Caldecote Church to take part in a special evensong service led by the Ven. Dr Alex Hughes, Archdeacon of Cambridge, to dedicate the new window.
The sung evensong will take place on Sunday July 16th at 6pm and will be followed by light savoury snacks courtesy of our neighbours at the Old Rectory.
For more information see our updated invitation and parking information.
We are especially grateful to the Archdeacon of Cambridge for agreeing to lead the service. (See our ‘Who’s Who‘ guide for how the Archdeacon fits into the Anglican picture.)
The stained glass window painting, just completed, features the delightful but unassuming Dartford Warbler, which was the subject of the PhD research of Dr Colin Bibby, in whose memory it was designed.
In the last months of his life, Dr Bibby raised money for the church which has now been invested in the complete re-leading and cleaning of five of our Victorian church windows which had become dangerously fragile due to weathering over the years.
‘A first-class choir that could have performed in a professional venue anywhere in the country.’ Anne Cleaver, de Mellow & Co
Evensong with Vox Cantab is not to be missed – it’s a heavenly sound that will fill the church. All are welcome to join us and Dr Bibby’s extended family as we give thanks for his life and work through the dedication of the new window.
A collection will be taken to contribute towards the costs of the choir.
