Written by a former Principal of Ridley Hall in Cambridge and parishioner of Dry Drayton church, A Church Observed is an accessible resource for understanding Anglican identity, with an eye to the future.

Using narrative as a way of drawing the reader in, with themes treated more systematically in the closing chapters, the book is also peppered with interesting photographs showing elements of Anglicanism from the days of World War One right through to the colourful modern-day photos from the Solomon Islands.
